Udon Thani

Udon Thani Province  is located in the heart of the Khorat Plateau between the provinces of Khon Kaen to its south, and Nong Khai to its north. The city of Udon Thani, its capital, is served by the railway line that goes northeast from Saraburi through Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat) and Khon Kaen to the border of Laos on the outskirts of Nong Khai city.

 "Nong Prachaksinlapakhom Public Park." 

It is a small garden on the park .There is a bridge linking the island with the mainland, a fountain, a  clock tower, and a playground with the park.

 " Wat Photisomphon "

It was built in the late reign of king Rama v. Inside is a museum of respected monks famous for meditation.

"Chaopu –Chaoya Chinese Spirit Shrine" 

 It is a beautiful Chinese Spirit Shrine. 

It is located near Nong Bua Market.

"Udon Sunshine Orchid Farm"

A beautiful garden, but it is small. 

Inside it have many kind of orchid.

 "Ban Chiang National Museum"

 It is an important historical site of Northeast Thailand and Southeast Asia.

"Wat Pho Si Nai" 

 Excavation Pit features an open museum.

 There are ancient ruins and fossil in layer of soil.

"Phu Foi Lom"
  
It is located in Pa Phan Don-Pakho National Forest Reserve.It is one of the best nature study centers of the Northeast area.

By Bus

 Air conditioned coaches and non-air conditioned buses leave Bangkok's Northeastern Bus Terminal on Kamphaengphet 2 Road every day between 5.00 AM. and 10.00 PM. The ride is 8-9 hours.

By Car

From Bangkok, take Highway 1 (Phaholyothin) to Saraburi, at Km. 107 take Highway 2 (Friendship Highway) through Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen provinces to Udon Thani. Total distance: 562 kilometers.

By Rail

Several trains leave Bangkok's Hualampong Railway station daily for Udon Thani.








In the city of Udon

The tuk-tuks or samloh's are very popular in Udon Thani. Try to keep the negotiated price in the 30-40 baht range, unless the trip is quite long. If you get into the bus station early in the morning and need a guest house they will pretend they can't speak english, drive you around in a small circle 'looking' for guesthouses before dropping you around the corner from the station. They will then ask for 100 baht for a 30 baht ride. 

By songthaew

Udon Thani has a bus-like network of numbered songthaews.There are two city buses: white and yellow. Trips around town cost between 5 and 15 baht depending on distance.

 This annual fair is held around December. There are booths of goods and local products, such as silk cloth, Khit-pattern woven cloth, hand – woven cloth, Mi-Khit cloth, and a golden dragon show from the Chaopu – Chaoya Chinese Spirit Shrine.

This annual fair is held during the13th – 15th waxing moon days of the 3rd lunar month with booths of goods and local products for sale.
